MARSHFIELD - Marshfield High School Principal Steve Sukawaty said he is resigning from his position with the district to become principal at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Port Washington.

Sukawaty said he is resigning for "personal and professional reasons."

Marshfield High Principal Steven Sukawaty announced he will resign effective June 30.

His resignation will be effective June 30, unless the district would like him "to leave earlier," he said, and he starts his new position July 1. Sukawaty would not disclose details about his resignation and said he was early in the process of notifying officials about his decision.

Sukawaty has served as Marshfield High School principal since July 1, 2012.

Prior to serving in Marshfield, Sukawaty was assistant principal for five years at Homestead High School, Mequon, where he also was a middle school guidance counselor for seven years and a social studies teacher for 12 years.

Taking the job in Port Washington "is one of the perks that I will be closer to (Mequon)," he said.

He was chosen as Marshfield High School principal on the basis of his strong knowledge of instruction and programming, according to previous reporting.

Sukawaty was named principal while Peg Geegan was Marshfield School District superintendent. She resigned from that position in 2014 to become principal of the district's Washington Elementary School.

Comment from district officials was not available.
