MARSHFIELD - Isabelle Jensen had been a recreational golfer throughout her life but did not come out for the Marshfield girls team until this fall in her senior season.

Isabelle Jensen has been one of the top individuals for the Marshfield girls golf team this season, her first year with the program.

Turns out to be a move better made late than never

Jensen, who also is a member of the Tigers' girls gymnastics team in the winter, has been one of the top individuals for the Tigers, who are in the middle of the pack through three legs of the Wisconsin Valley Conference

"She is very receptive to suggestions and advice and willing to trying things (on the golf course)," Marshfield girls coach Kevin Fredrick said during a team practice Wednesday. "It's not any major overhauls with her game, just a few tweaks here or just, 'Hey, let's just try this here.'  Her drives (are a strength) — her ability to shorten up the holes. Then her putting has come a long way and become a strength, too."

Jensen recently sat down with USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin to talk about her participation in golf and gymnastics, some of her outside interests as well as her future goals after high school, among other subjects.

What is your nickname, or what do you friends/teammates call you?

Some of my teammates call me ‘Izzy’. It’s more of a gymnastics thing. but some other people call me that too.

Any hidden talents? Or is there something that most people might not know about you?

I play the violin. That’s about as hidden as it gets. I’ve played it since the fourth grade.

What would you say your most memorable sports moment has been?

My first gymnastics meet. It was pretty much the first thing I did for sports and it is something that I am going to remember forever. Every event was a new thing and it was just getting used to (competitions) rather than just practice.

What has more pressure? Getting set for the balance beam in gymnastics or lining up for a 5-foot putt in golf?

Probably the 5-foot putt because its so short that you can easily overthink it

Talk about the the differences between the two sports. I imagine golf is a more relaxing sport for you?

It’s definitely more relaxing just because you have time in between holes to think about yourself. In gymnastics you have one shot and its done. I feel there’s equal pressure in both but its just a little more chill in golf.

What would you say your most embarrassing sports moment has been?

I hit a ball (off the first tee) and it ended up going behind the tee box. Everyone is watching you, there’s a lot of pressure and then that happens.

Do you have any superstitions or sports rituals you go through before a gymnastics meet?

Some people like to be by their teammates, but especially for gymnastics, I like to be by myself and try to focus a lot and get into the zone.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Zac Efron.

Where would your dream vacation be?

Probably Hawaii. I have never been there.

What is your dream career?

I want to be a surgeon.

It’s early but do you know where you would like to go to college?

I am hoping (University of Wisconsin) Madison but I haven’t really applied anywhere yet.
