Thursday’s top games

Green Bay Notre Dame at Ashwaubenon

The series: Notre Dame leads 6-5.

The last time: Notre Dame won 17-14 in overtime at Notre Dame on Aug. 25, 2017.

About the Tritons: Notre Dame is coming off a 40-0 win over Sheboygan South in a game they led 34-0 at the half. Quarterback Wes Glime completed 10 of 14 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed four times for 44 yards. Brandon Limoni carried 14 times for 112 yards and one TD.

About the Jaguars: The Jaguars are coming off a 10-7 loss at Green Bay Preble. Quarterback Cayden Staffer paced the offense with 91 yards passing and 26 yards rushing. He threw for the Jaguars’ lone touchdown, a 5-yard pass to Luke Schroeder.

Green Bay Southwest at De Pere

The series: Tied 6-6.

The last time: Southwest won 20-0 at Southwest on Aug. 24, 2017.

About the Trojans: Southwest is coming off a 21-17 last-minute loss to Pulaski. The Trojans had the ball deep in Pulaski territory with time winding down but turned the ball over.

About the Redbirds: De Pere held on for a 15-13 win over Manitowoc last Thursday. Landon Kirby threw for a touchdown pass and Caelan Markusen ran for a score. The De Pere defense also registered a third-quarter safety.

Friday’s top games

Fond du Lac Springs at Amherst

The series: Springs leads 2-1.

The last time: Springs won 14-13 at Fruth Field in Fond du Lac on Aug. 25, 2017.

About the Ledgers: Springs is coming off a 51-0 thrashing of Markesan. The Ledgers took control early, leading 24-0 after one quarter and by 37 at halftime. Mitchell Waechter completed 9 of 14 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown and rushed seven times for 54 yards and two scores. Also rushing for TDs were Karlis Ozols, Marcus Orlandoni and Ezra Tucker.

About the Falcons: Amherst raced out to a 20-0 first-quarter lead en route to a 34-3 win over Merrill on Friday. Quarterback Lincoln Cullen completed 17 of 26 passes for 254 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also rushed for one, while Josh Rieck rushed just 10 times for 62 yards and scored two TDs.

Appleton North at Neenah

The series: Appleton North leads 12-7.

The last time: Appleton North won 45-7 in a Division 1 second-round playoff game at North on Oct. 27, 2017.

About the Lightning: North rolled up more than 400 yards of total offense in a 55-0 romp over D.C. Everest. The Lightning defense, meanwhile, held the Evergreens to 102 total yards. Quarterback Carter Robinson completed 13 of 18 passes for 207 yards and three TDs, while running back Ian Laatsch added 102 yards rushing and two TDs on 11 carries. Oliver Crane also scored a pair of touchdowns on just two carries for 76 yards. Patrick Watson also rushed for a 56-yard touchdown.

About the Rockets: Quarterback Sam Dietrich completed 6 of 17 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns to lead Neenah to a 24-6 win over Stevens Point. Carson Hughes was the Rockets’ leading rusher, gaining 82 yards on 17 carries. He also scored a touchdown.

Winneconne at Omro

The series: Winneconne leads 35-33-1.

The last time: Omro won 34-31 at Winneconne on Aug. 25, 2017.

About the Wolves: Winneconne is coming off a 37-6 win over Southern Door. Quarterback Harrison Roubidoux paced the Wolves’ attack by completing 17 of 31 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns.

About the Foxes: Omro held off Columbus 21-14 last Friday. Quarterback Jacob Kafer led the Foxes with 25 rushes for 148 yards and three touchdowns.

Antigo at Stratford

The series: Stratford leads 1-0.

The last time: Stratford won 28-0 at Antigo on Aug. 25, 2017.

About the Red Robins: Antigo fell behind 21-0 at the half and dropped a 35-14 decision to Berlin in the season opener. Dominic Smith paced the Red Robins with 120 yards rushing on 10 carries. Quarterback Nevin Cornelius passed for one touchdown and Isaac Wickershiem rushed for another.

About the Tigers: Like Antigo, Stratford fell behind early and was beaten 27-7 by Spencer/Columbus Catholic on Friday. The Rockets scored all of their points in the first half. Quarterback Max Schwabe paced the Tigers, completing 10 of 17 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted twice. Kade Ehrike rushed 14 times for 71 yards.

Hudson at Stevens Point

The series (since 2000): Stevens Point leads 6-0.

The last time: Stevens Point won 48-47 in overtime in a Division 1 first-round playoff game at Hudson on Oct. 20, 2017.

About the Raiders: Hudson opened its season with a 48-20 win over Kenosha Indian Trail. Keyser Helterbrand paced the Raiders’ attack with four rushing touchdowns of 4, 20, 4 and 3 yards out. Cole Danielson also scored on runs of 5 and 70 yards.

About the Panthers: SPASH looks to rebound from a 24-6 loss at Neenah. Jack Kelly rushed five times for 88 yards, including a 67-yard first-quarter touchdown, while quarterback Brett Her completed 11 of 19 passes for 72 yards. He was intercepted once. The Panthers couldn’t hold their brief 6-0 lead as the Rockets answered with three first-half TDs of their own.

Sheboygan Falls at Plymouth

The series: Plymouth leads 39-29-2.

The last time: Plymouth won 21-6 at Sheboygan Falls on Aug. 25, 2017.

About the Falcons: Sheboygan Falls downed Brown Deer 20-0 on Friday. The Falcons were led by Addison Kuplic, who carried 22 times for 87 yards and one touchdown; Mason Miller, who rushed 17 times for 77 yards; and Garrett Rau, who had nine carries for 61 yards.

About the Panthers: Plymouth opened with a 29-14 setback against host New Berlin Eisenhower. The game was tied at 7-7 at the half before Eisenhower took control late in the third quarter. Quarterback Cole Booth paced the Panthers attack, completing 22 of 32 pass attempts for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately for Plymouth, he was intercepted five times.

Fox Valley Lutheran at Luxemburg-Casco

The series: Tied 2-2.

The last time: Fox Valley Lutheran won 27-14 at Appleton on Aug. 25, 2017.

About the Foxes: FVL opened its season with a 41-7 win over Clintonville at Kaukauna. The Foxes opened up a 28-0 halftime lead thanks to a 20-point second quarter. Quarterback Drew Reader completed 21 of 34 passes for 375 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed 10 times for 31 yards and another touchdown. Reader was picked off once. Jebediah Dobberstein also rushed 16 times for 65 yards and one TD.

About the Spartans: Luxemburg-Casco outlasted Denmark 14-7 in the season opener. The Spartans, FVL and Freedom all tied for second place in the North Eastern Conference last season at 6-2, one game behind champion Wrightstown.

Saturday’s top game

Menominee, Mich., at Marinette

The series (Since 1894): Menominee, Mich., leads 54-50-7.

The last time: Menominee, Mich., won 26-6 at Menominee on Aug. 26, 2017.

About the Maroons: This will be the season opener for Menominee. The Maroons finished third in the Great Northern Upper Peninsula Conference at 2-2 and was 8-4 overall in 2017, losing 46-34 to Reed City in a regional final.

About the Marines: Marinette dropped a 35-8 decision to Wrightstown in the season opener. Sam Drees led the Marines with 78 yards rushing on 11 carries and one touchdown. Quarterback Matt Wagner completed 7 of 10 passes for 64 yards and threw one interception.
